Paint calculator for Singapore rooms
Estimate the wall and ceiling area, number of coats, and litres to buy for an HDB, BTO, or condo room.
Room measurements
How this paint calculator works
The calculator finds the area of all four walls, subtracts a practical allowance for doors and windows, and optionally adds the ceiling. It then multiplies that surface by the selected coats and divides it by the paint coverage.
Before buying paint
Confirm the product coverage, whether primer is required, and whether the existing colour needs an extra coat. Keep the same batch number where possible and retain a small sealed amount for later touch-ups.
Using the result with a contractor
Use the estimate to compare quotations, not as a final scope. Professional painting prices may also include protection, surface repair, primer, labour, access, and cleanup.
Paint calculator FAQ
- How much paint do I need for one HDB room?
- The amount depends on wall perimeter, ceiling height, openings, coats, and the coverage stated by the paint manufacturer. A typical bedroom often needs several litres for two wall coats, but measuring the actual room produces a safer estimate.
- Does the calculator subtract doors and windows?
- Yes. It uses an allowance of 1.8 square metres per door and 1.5 square metres per window. Measure unusually large openings separately for a more precise order.
- Should I include a paint contingency?
- The result includes 10% for touch-ups, uneven absorption, and small measurement differences. Textured or newly plastered walls may need more paint or primer.
- What paint coverage should I enter?
- Use the coverage printed on the exact product data sheet or tin. Ten square metres per litre per coat is a useful starting point, but coverage varies by product, colour, surface, and application method.
